Welcome to the forge of Noel Gregg. Here at my workplace in Twizel, New Zealand, I design and craft contemporary iron work that is founded on the ancient techniques of the blacksmith.
My work is inspired by the New Zealand landscape and lifestyle. It ranges from larger commissioned public and private works, as well gates and screens, through to smaller stock pieces. All of my work is forged using traditional techniques.
Blacksmithing is an ancient craft. It is as old as civilization itself. The blacksmith has always held a central role in society. He was the maker of weapons to protect and the crafter of implements to till the soil. So blacksmithing was the first and most important trade or craft in the world. Like many new countries, blacksmithing was a very sought-after craft in early New Zealand where blacksmiths helped to build a new country from the ground up.
